The Little Arber Lake (link only in GE) is a sour lake, i.e. very low pH-value brought about by the infamous acid rain, which makes it a lake where only few species can survive now, although it was once rich with fish.
From the internet I printed directions for a tour around the lake. So I parked the car where directions recommended (at 1,040 meters or 3,412 ft above sea level), and followed the path. Down. Further down. And even further down. And I kept on thinking: "I'll have to get back up there!" *argh*
When I reached the level path leading towards the lake, I found out that I could have driven all the way to a little guest house that's not far from the lake! Rats!
The lake (915 m or 3,000 ft above sea level) is indeed very romantic and scenic, a great destination. And although it was off-off-season, there were quite a few visitors. But that was ok.
There are small isles in the lake which are made up of grass. It's a sign of the lake slowly but surely silting up (hope that's the correct translation), but it's a natural process which must not be disturbed and therefore people are forbidden to access those isles. Which makes it a great breeding place for birds ![]()
After my tour around the lake, I went back up to my car. And up. And up. It was only a one km walk, but imagine the most unsporty person trying to walk UPhill (up-mountain??) for a whole km! *moan groan puff gasp*
But I managed with lots and lots of breaks in-between!![]()
Then I was so exhausted and tired that I went back home ![]()
And when I get to it, I'll tell you about my trip to the Austrian border on Sunday ![]()
