Bad news, goods news

Yesterday, my microwave died. *rats*

I use it quite often for making rice and noodles (better than on the stove!), and for warming up what I've cooked before.

If only they weren't so bloody expensive!

The good news: I just looked under my desk, and noticed a nice big package - my new camera has arrived!!!!! *yaaayyyyyy*

Oooooh, I'm so excited now!

P.S.: and ACDC's "Highway to Hell" is playing on the radio (really loud, of course). What a good start to the week, in spite of the broken microwave

Rice is better cooked in the microwave???!!! Please tell me more as I live off rice and vegetables...

  I prefer to cook rice, noodles and gnocchi in the microwave because I have an electric stove, no gas. And as you know, you need a lot of energy just to heat the stove, then you cook what you want to cook, and when you're done there's still a lot of heat in those hotplates (or whatever you call them). Not energy efficient at all.
  
  (Loose) Rice: wash, put in high container, cover with water enough to have about 2 cm / 1 in of water above the rice, cover with microwavable cover and stick in microwave. Allow to boil up once (takes about 7 minutes, depending on the microwave) until you see foam rising (the foam is just water bubbles and starch), then turn off and let sit for maybe 5 minutes. Cooks without any problems and can't burn the rice (as it might happen on a stove) ...
  
  Noodles and gnocchi: also put in high container, salt and pour boiling water (from the electric tea kettle) over it. Cover again and stick in microwave until you see the foam again (about 2 minutes). Let sit, cooks by itself.
  
  In spite of the electric kettle which uses a lot of energy, it's still more effective than the stove because it doesn't take so long.

    Gotcha, that makes sense. I try and minimise wasted energy by turning the rings off early.

microwave ovens are not expensive AL, I reckon you can pick up a new one for € 60 or so

  € 60 is fecking expensive! I found one for € 40 at Media Markt, looks and feels very solid and sturdy. Let's wait and see, I don't trust the quality from Media Markt, they're too cheap ~~but I still went there~~.

Wish I had a new camera! meh!

I hardly use my mocrowave now as I am trying to be healthier and use to hob and oven more! LOL

  I don't use the microwave for real cooking except for rice, noodles and gnocchi. Other than that, I just need it to heat up what I had cooked before, and I'm always careful not to overheat it. Rather put it on low and allow a minute longer, otherwise the microwave kills too many vitamins.

  And I've already played with my new toy too ... *cough*
  
  Will share with you when motifs get better, yesterday I was just trying to aquaint myself with the camera and play with the different features. It has a special sunset program! But no visible sunset yesterday
