This is a rant about those lying German politicians who think they can take their voters for a ride. It won't pertain to you if you don't live in Germany so feel free to not read this post, I only have to vent.

We'll be having an election later on this year, and yesterday the reigning CDU party with Chancellor Merkel have introduced their program to the public.

Would you believe they PROMISE that they a.) will NOT increase taxes, and b.) will indeed CUT taxes.

To fully understand this, you have to know that the German state plans on borrowing 21 BILLION Euros (~ 18 billion GBP) this year alone (link not in English). But with all the financial support provided to greedy banks and failing companies, many critics think it'll be closer to 50 billion Euros (~ 42 billion GBP).

So how in the world are they going to finance the promised tax cuts? It is not possible, everyone with a bit of brains states so. But the CDU claims that with the increase of individuals' spending power due to the tax cuts, the economy will grow again and push money back into the state's account.

Bullshit! >:-[

The economy growth figure stated by the CDU is taken out of the blue, and the German psyche is that of a collector: they will not spend all the tax return money but instead try to save it one way or another. The economy will benefit very little from it.

Even one of the most prominent finance ministers we've ever had, Mr. Waigel from the CSU (a sister party of the CDU), criticizes Ms. Merkel's plans as "un-financeable".

But she holds on to it fast. "There will not be a tax increase with me in the next legislative period", she states.

Very smart, actually. No tax raise in her next term, and a big black hole afterwards. Because eventually, someone has to pay for all the expenses. And who do you think it will be?

And just to show you how smart they are: they did not state a deadline for the tax cuts. So they promise us a reduction in taxes but do not tell us by when we can expect that.

"100 years later, the promised tax cuts will be put in place!"

And why do they make these promises? Because their co-reigning party, the SPD - who really is their opponent - were a tiny bit more honest and said that taxes will need to be increased to finance all the support packages for the economy.

But the CDU now can say: well WE won't raise taxes so vote for us.

Fucking liars!! I so hope that the public can see through those damn lies! But knowing how stupid a large part of the German public really is, I have little hope.

The CDU will be elected, they won't increase taxes in the following 6 years, and we will have unimaginable problems after that. >:-[

Gawd, I so hate politicians sometimes. Instead of doing what's best for the country and its citizens, they only do what's best for them AND what keeps them in power. "Machtgeil" is what we call that.
