Ah, that's too bad. It was really lovely yesterday.
I have the same problem with sun-/moonrises, can't see them because of too many buildings

Now if I can only get myself to use the tripod to get a clearer picture ...

I've seen a red moon before, very rarely though. The colour's fantastic on your pic.

Thanks Matt! It seems to be relatively rare indeed, I was so happy to have caught it that I posted this bad photo
Maybe, if it's this red again tonight and the sky clear, MAYBE I'll pull out the tripod this time ...

Interesting that you too refer to a large full moon as Paddy's Lantern. Wondering who stole Paddy's Lantern from who? lol

Notice the moon was pinkish last night around sunset but could not get a piccy as driving.
Not as spectacular as your pic though.

Apparently, the eruption of Russia's Sarychev Peak created spectacular sunsets. Maybe that's also true for moonsets?

Sounds like a reasonable hypothesis.

Very nice.
Couldn't see the moon setting last night - too many buildings spoiling the horizon.
